The Least Used Amtrak Station In Utah As Of 2023

SALT LAKE CITY, UT - In fiscal year 2023, Amtrak operated two trains daily through Utah as part of the long-distance California Zephyr route, which runs from San Francisco to Chicago, passing through cities like Salt Lake City, Provo, and Green River.

According to Amtrak, Amtrak stations in Utah recorded a total of 41,125 passengers for the year, with Salt Lake City being the busiest station, serving 31,004 riders.

Provo followed with 5,950 passengers, while Green River and Helper saw much lower ridership. Green River reported 2,123 riders, but Helper was the least-used station in the state, with just 2,048 passengers over the year, according to Amtrak.

Amtrak continues to depend on cooperation with host railroads to maintain its operations, although on-time performance remains a challenge due to delays caused by freight trains, according to Amtrak.

Despite these issues, the California Zephyr remains a vital transportation link for Utah residents, especially in major hubs like Salt Lake City.
