FREDERICK, MD - Effective October 1, 2024, Maryland residents participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will see an increase in benefits, following the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLA) announced by the federal government.

These adjustments impact maximum allotments, income eligibility standards, and deductions for SNAP recipients nationwide.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, for a family of four in Maryland, the maximum monthly allotment will rise to $975, aligning with the new levels set for the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia. The minimum benefit for eligible households will remain at $23.

Additionally, the shelter cap value for Maryland households will increase to $712, providing more relief for housing expenses.

The standard deduction for households of one to three people will rise to $204 per month, while the asset limit for households will increase to $3,000, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

For households with at least one member who is 60 or older, or disabled, the asset limit will increase to $4,500, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

These changes aim to provide more support for low-income families and individuals in Maryland facing rising costs of living.
