Bridge Day, one of the most anticipated annual events in West Virginia, gives thrill-seekers the chance to jump from the iconic New River Gorge Bridge.

Held every third Saturday in October, the event celebrates adventure sports and the stunning landscape of the New River Gorge, drawing thousands of spectators and participants.

According to Bridge Day, since its inception in 1980, Bridge Day has become a premier event for BASE jumpers and rappellers. The New River Gorge Bridge, standing 876 feet above the river, is the only legal fixed object in the U.S. that allows BASE jumping during the event.

Participants leap off the bridge, freefall for several seconds, and deploy their parachutes, landing safely below. Jumpers must be pre-registered, meet experience qualifications, and follow strict safety guidelines, according to Bridge Day.

For those less inclined to jump, Bridge Day also offers rappelling and a zip line from the bridge, giving visitors multiple ways to enjoy the breathtaking views.

The event also features vendors, food stalls, and live entertainment, creating a festival atmosphere in the heart of West Virginia's outdoor adventure capital, according to Bridge Day.

This unique celebration not only showcases extreme sports but also highlights the beauty of the New River Gorge, a designated National Park, making it a must-see for adrenaline junkies and nature enthusiasts alike.
