RALEIGH: Dog dies after having virus that causes COVID-19 in people: RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - State health officials have received their first confirmed case of a dog having the coronavirus. The Department of Health and Human Services said a person on Monday night brought their sick dog to the North Carolina State Veterinary Hospital in Raleigh. It was showing signs of respiratory distress that began earlier in the day and died due to the acute illness.

The total number of deaths has reached 2176, after 4 patients passed away yesterday; while 105093 patients are recovered. The number of known coronavirus cases in the United States continues to rise. As of Monday evening, 5,206,125 people have tested positive for coronavirus (5,205,994 of them being officially confirmed).

Gun-Rights Group Files Third COVID-19 Lawsuit Against Wake County Sheriff: RALEIGH - The demand for firearms, starting with an application for a gun permit, remains high, though local sheriffs' offices are struggling to keep up. Grass Roots North Carolina is again suing Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker, the third time since the start of COVID-19 lockdowns. The lawsuits began in March, challenging a move by Baker, who suspended all pistol permit and concealed-carry services for more than a month.
Healthy adults sought for COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial: WINSTON-SALEM - Wake Forest Baptist Health, in partnership with Javara, a Winston-Salem-based integrated research organization, have begun recruiting healthy adults for a Phase 3 clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of mRNA-1273, a vaccine candidate against COVID-19. Sponsored by Moderna, the COVE Study is recruiting healthy volunteers ages 18 or older in high-risk populations, including the elderly, racial and ethnic minorities at higher risk for COVID-19 and essential workers in close contact with potentially infected persons.
Covid-19 vaccine trial recruiting in the Triad: Healthy Triad residents 18 or older with no known history of Covid-19 infection can sign up to be part of a clinical trial exploring a potential vaccine for the virus.
