President-elect Joe Biden said he will call on the nation to wear a mask in public for at least the first 100 days of his presidency, according to CNN.

"Just 100 days to mask, not forever," Biden said in an exclusive interview with CNN. "100 days. And I think we'll see a significant reduction."

Biden also told CNN's Jake Tapper on Thursday that he has asked Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of President Donald Trump's coronavirus task force, to be his chief medical adviser and part of his coronavirus response team.

"I asked him to stay on the exact same role he's had for the past several presidents, and I asked him to be a chief medical adviser for me as well, and be part of the Covid team," Biden said.

The president-elect also said he would be happy to get the coronavirus vaccine once Fauci said it is safe.

"People have lost faith in the ability of the vaccine to work," Biden said. "Already the numbers are really staggeringly low, and it matters what the President and Vice President do."

Former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have also pledged to get vaccinated on televison to promote its safety.
