It is an American utility company that provides electrical and energy services to the city of Indianapolis. The company was acquired by AES Corporation in the year 2001. AES Indiana presently provides electric service to almost 500,000 customers in a service territory of 1,370 square kilometres.

It was founded in October 1926 by a merger between Indianapolis Power and Light and the Merchant’s Heat and Light Company. Both the companies were providing electrical energy since the 1880s. The headquarters of the company have been established at Monument Circle in Downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The building was established in the year 1935 and is now known as the Electric Building. It serves over 500,000 customers in the Indianapolis metropolitan area.

With over 1500 employees, the company marks a history of over a century.
