8 Productivity Books Every Self-Development Guru Urges you to Read
2021-03-01
As I mentioned a few times before, I am a productivity guinea pig in the making. By this, I do not mean I am cute, fuzzy and adorable (yet, I am definitely adorable).
I simply love experimenting and trying new things. I love learning too, as a matter of fact.
I would not consider myself a guru in anything, yet I am definitely a lover of productivity, time management and marketing among other things. The way that (after 10 years) I still continue to evolve and learn is by constantly finding inspiration through books — I am a book writer myself, after all.
As I am gearing up towards the publication of my own book, Reclaim your Time Off, I am always looking for more inspiration to help me reclaim my energies.
Here’s a list of books I have read, analysed, studied, found in countless articles as well as bibliographies in the past few years.
The 5am Club — Robin Sharma
A classic that never grows old. Should everyone wake up at 5am every morning? Probably not. Yet, this book can teach you so much about the way you approach and start your day.
Through the enchanting story of an entrepreneur, an artist, and their eccentric billionaire mentor, The 5 AM Club (2018) shows how embracing a revolutionary morning routine can deliver epic results.
The concept was devised over twenty years ago and is based on a revolutionary morning routine that has helped thousand maximise their productivity, activate their best health and bulletproof their happiness.
What would be possible if you followed through on your best intentions? What could you accomplish if you could stay focused and overcome distractions?
What if you had the power to become “indistractable”?
This book addresses one of modern life’s most common problems — distraction, often blamed on contemporary technology.
However, the blame may be found elsewhere. In this book, Eyal provides an actionable four-part framework that breaks down how distraction really works and what you can do to overcome it.
Perfect for people who…
Have given-in to procrastination and distraction at one time or another
Are set on cultivating better habits
Want to create a better relationship with tech for the whole family
What makes great entrepreneurs, well, great? Packed with fascinating and inspirational tales of success, Amy Wilkinson's brilliant book explains the six essential skills required by entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams.
Based on in-depth interviews with the founders of numerous global brands, from eBay to Spanx, from LinkedIn to PayPal, she shows just what they did and what set them apart.
For the key to being a successful entrepreneur isn't necessarily about being 'first', it is about being the 'only' one, and devising a new formula where none previously existed. Above all, these stories show how - if you follow the right steps - anyone can become a successful entrepreneur.
The Unexpected Joy of the Ordinary - Catherine Gray
A personal favourite of our founder Fab, Catherine Gray is an author you should definitely have on your radar. With her latest book, she explores why ordinary is not that bad. Actually, it’s pretty good.
The author busts 'extraordinary-seeking' myths such as big bucks means big happiness, expensive weddings predict future happiness, high-intensity exercise is the best kind, and the workaday is less important than the showreel.
In this groundbreaking book, Clears reveals exactly how small changes can grow into such life-altering experiences. He uncovers a handful of simple life hacks (the forgotten art of Habit Stacking, the unexpected power of the Two Minute Rule or the trick to entering the Goldilocks Zone) and delves into cutting-edge psychology and neuroscience to explain why they matter.
Along the way, he tells inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs and distinguished scientists who have used the science of tiny habits to stay productive, motivated and happy. As a lover of habits, I could not recommend it enough.
Learn to do more and stress less — what’s not to like?
Sometimes, what you really want is a book that takes you through the basics.
Since it was first published almost fifteen years ago, David Allen’s Getting Things Done has become one of the most influential business books of its era, and the ultimate book on personal organisation every productivity guru has on their bookshelves.
Perfect for people who…
Feel stressed or overworked
Wants to be productive in their work and personal lives
Are curious about the widely acclaimed Getting Things Done method
