(DETROIT) Michigan native and star of HGTV show Rehab Addict Rescue, Nicole Curtis, is suing the Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) over a home that she claims to own, according to Click On Detroit.

The lawsuit stems from Curtis's claim that she owned a home on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit. Curtis was preparing to renovate the home until the Land Bank listed the home for sale about a month ago.

According to the DLBA, the previous homeowners lost the home in January 2017. That didn't stop them, however, from illegally selling it to Curtis five months later for $17,000. The DLBA didn't get wind of the illegal sale until almost a year later, but by then Curtis had already invested resources into renovating the home.

Over the weekend, Curtis took to Twitter to express her frustrations with the situation.

The situation reached the ears of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, and he weighed in on it from the DLBA's perspective.

“I feel bad for Nicole. It appears she was scammed. It appears she paid somebody who didn’t own the house and paid them to buy it. But the Land Bank cannot legally give her the property,” Duggan said.

DLBA stated that they have made attempts to resolve the unfortunate situation with Curtis, but she has rejected all of them. Duggan says that DLBA is not going to violate any laws in order to make Curtis happy.

“She can have 100 critical stories, the Land Bank is not going to break the law. They can’t turn the property over without getting values,” Duggan said.
