Bomb threat suspect detained after pursuit in Los Angeles, not San Pedro

On Thursday, April 1 between 5 and 8 pm, a high-speed chase ensued in San Pedro and Los Angeles.

The driver, who some witnesses report going “at least 120 mph” and driving in the wrong direction, was suspected of being in possession of a bomb.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and helicopters circled and raced down Western Avenue.

The chase ended on 110th Street and Denker Avenue according to a local witness.

The high-speed pursuit occurred in Los Angeles, not San Pedro. Sometimes there’s confusion with the addresses in that area in older maps.

Details of the bomb threat itself are scarce-to-nonexistent, so the situation is developing.

In fact, some locals wondered if it could be an April Fool’s joke. It is not a joke.

That’s not how law enforcement works, folks, but we can see where you might think that.

The LAPD has its own bomb squad which investigates bomb threats that have been evaluated by LAPD patrol police officers.

According to lapdonline.org, the Bomb Squad has 28 full-time officers and 3 K-9 handlers. How many K-9s on the squad is unknown.

The Bomb Squad responds to approximately 500 bomb-related calls for service per year.

About 22% of those calls involve live devices that had to be rendered safe, live devices that have already gone off, live military ordnance, and other illegal explosive devices.
