Shortly after 11 am on Monday, April 5, a man carjacked a FedEx truck on the southern edge of San Francisco near Glen Park.

The incident occurred on the corner of Peru Ave and Naples St.

The suspect was a Black male wearing a red do-rag, light brown jacket, red shorts, and black backpack.

The suspect, a man, reportedly fled the scene in the vehicle.

A witness confirmed it was a carjacking to police.

Ten minutes after the crime was reported, the suspect abandoned the vehicle.

Some believe this an escalation from “porch pirates”—people who steal delivered packages from people’s doorsteps.

A FedEx truck was stolen last month in Grapevine, Texas. While some might think a stolen FedEx truck is a rare occurrence, it happens more often than never, which is still a lot.

    Solutions to Carjackings?

While the ideal solution is for people to not steal cars in the first place, there are potential solutions for putting future systems in place.

One option is having two FedEx drivers per truck so that when one driver is making deliveries, the other is keeping watch.

The same is true for contractor delivery drivers like for DoorDash and the like. Just last month in San Francisco a delivery driver’s car was stolen while he was delivering food. His children were in the backseat. Thankfully, the car and children, who were safe, were retrieved about an hour later.

These kinds of crimes have been on the increase in the City, as they have been in many places around the U.S.
