At 12:22 pm on Tuesday, April 6, a special incident was reported at W 155th St and S Budlong Place, a fairly residential part of Gardena, California, near Los Angeles.

The incident? A chicken was seen crossing the road.

Those who reported the incident assumed the chicken was crossing the road to get to the other side.

Did the chicken actually make it to the other side?

After taking a rather disoriented, zig-zag-gy, halting route both across, up and down, alongside, and backward on the street, and then standing still-ward, the chicken did, in fact, narrowly avoid getting hit by a car.

But did it actually make it across the street?

It’s hard to say. We’re pretty sure the answer is no, though it could have gotten to the curb on the opposite side of the street.

Whose was this chicken? This is also an unknown at this point in the story.

While it’s unknown who the chicken belonged to or if it’s a born-to-be-wild chicken, a local resident was able to catch the chicken and has decided to bring it home to “give her a good home.”

    Can you have a chicken?

    The answer is yes.

According to the LA Times, Chickens are permitted in most Los Angeles backyards, said Ashley Rodriguez, spokeswoman for L.A. Animal Services, as long as they are kept at least 35 feet from a neighboring structure. That mandatory buffer zone expands to 100 feet for roosters, and there's a limit of one rooster per household, she said.

Ah-ha. Then, the chicken came before the egg. Voila.
