Just a few short years ago, not too many people in the US outside of the bay area had even heard of boba. This popular drink, also known as milk tea, has officially swept the nation and is now enjoyed by many people throughout the states and around the world. Thanks to its popularity, boba joints can be found almost anywhere. Here in San Jose, there are so many great options to treat yourself to a refreshing boba drink. I have sampled many of them and have chosen my favorites. If you are having trouble making an important boba decision, then read on to learn more about the three best boba spots in San Jose.
With two locations, White Road and Lundy Avenue, the number of options that Pekoe features can seem just a tad overwhelming to the boba novice. The good news is that they are all rather amazing premade options. I like the Foxy Brown which includes black assam milk tea with brown turbinado sugar. My all time favorite would have to be the Manly melons and although that's a questionable name, it's the perfect blend of Jasmine Green Tea and a bunch of fruits mixed into the drink. Another popular menu item is their Pretty in Pink, which is a Jasmine Green Tea blended with strawberry hearts and strawberries to create the perfect strawberry tea drink. This best-seller contains jasmine tea infused with strawberries if you couldn't tell and they are a game changer. These drinks are all crafted with high-quality ingredients and organic syrups. If you are feeling creative, customize your drink so it is just right.
With all ingredients chopped and stirred expertly with care in their kitchen, this location on Berryessa Road uses only the best quality of ingredients in all of their offerings. They pride themselves on blending their high quality with an exceptional customer experience. The taro milk tea is one of my personal favorites. The oolong milk tea with boba is also worth trying out. But if you really want to know the best thing on their menu, it is the house coffee. I honestly get that more than I get their boba drinks because it is such good quality coffee and it's sweet enough to pretend it's a milk tea drink as well. And though you should certainly visit for their boba, you must also make sure to sample their house-made macarons.
What I recommend: Jasmine Green Milk Tea & house coffee
Going on 20 years of being in the business of boba, Tastea is a standout for a reason in San Jose. If you are new to crafting your own boba drink, they will gladly walk you through the ordering process step by step. Start by picking out your tea. From there, choose your dairy. They offer non-dairy creamer, whole milk almond milk, and oat milk. My personal favorite is the regular milk tea and their best selling fruit tea. Each location is a charming bar area for patrons to sit and enjoy their boba tea with friends. Make sure to come back often as they are always changing things up and looking for new, fun ways to make delicious boba drinks.
What I recommend: regular milk tea & fruit teas
