Mexican food is beloved by many people and for good reason. It appeals to all palates whether young or old. When dining out at a Mexican restaurant, there will be something on the menu to please the entire family. Los Angeles is blessed to have a large Mexican American population, and they have contributed so many awesome culinary influences to Southern California. Since there are so many great options to choose from, I went ahead and did all of the required eating to choose the best of the best for you. If you want to try them out for yourself, then read on to learn about the three best Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles.
Located on Olympic Boulevard, Guelaguetza is not just a traditional Oaxacan restaurant but also a market which sells its amazing sauces. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and each is super tasty. For breakfast, I recommend their chilaquiles al gusto. I order it with their salsa roja because there's an extra tingy sensation that goes with every bite. For a dinner entrée, try their enchiladas campesinas. These come prepared with chicken and their famous red mole sauce. If you enjoy their mole sauce, you can buy them to go and they have black, red, and coloradito mole paste to take home and add to your creations at home. Be careful not to fill up, however, because they have some sweet offerings you will want to try. There tamal de dulce is a sweet corn tamale served with pineapple and it is literally one of the best things I've ever had. The trip here is definitely worth it!
What I recommend: enchiladas & more enchiladas
Location: 3014 W Olympic Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90006
Since they have been making awesome Mexican food in Los Angeles since 1955, it is a safe bet to say that the folks at El Tepeyac Café know their way around a kitchen. They offer burritos that may take you three sittings to devour. Their machaca burrito is sure to hit the spot for any meal of the day because it is so massive and delicious. All burritos can come “wet” which means they have one of Tepeyac’s delicious sauces poured over the top and you're in for a treat if you opt in for that option. For those non-burrito lovers, come early and try a helping of their huevos rancheros for breakfast. This café is definitely one of my favorites since discovering it.
What I recommend: wet burrito & huevos rancheros
Location: 812 N Evergreen Ave Los Angeles, CA 90033
I don't believe that one has to wait for a Tuesday to partake in some tacos. Any day can be taco Tuesday if you are at Guisados. They offer a variety of meat and seafood tacos. I order their cochinita pibil which is a taco stuffed with sweet pork and black beans and if you've never had anything like this, make sure to try it. I always ask them to dial up the spice for me, which enhances the tacos a lot. For the non-meat eaters, they offer a lot of vegetable taco options. Try the hongos con cilantro. It is a taco stuffed with mushrooms, onions, and queso fresco. To accompany my taco, I like to wash it down with a cool glass of their traditional jamaica.
What I recommend: cochinita pibil & more tacos
