The startup, sunday, was founded by Atlanta tech leader and previous COO of ManoMano Christine de Wendel alongside European restaurateurs Tigrane Seydoux and Victor Lugger of Big Mamma Group Restaurants. sunday hopes to revolutionize the restaurant payment system.

sunday launched on April 14, 2021, providing a new payment method for restaurant customers to pay in 10 seconds and on their own time. The new technology allows customers to pay their bill via a QR code placed on each table and attributed to separate groups. With this, customers will be able to split checks easily, eliminate physical touch points between restaurant staff and customers, and increase efficiencies.

The goal of sunday is to make brick-and-mortar, dine-in restaurant experiences as simple, fast, and convenient as ordering online. The app offers a solution that will change payment systems in all physical locations from hospitality to dining to retail.

Restaurant owners will enjoy the operational efficiencies, faster turnover for their staff, and the opportunity for higher tips. Restaurant employees can turn tables faster, improve service, and remove major sticking points in dealing with payments from guests like splitting the check. Customers will enjoy skipping the waiting game and being able to pay the moment they are ready without a lot of hassle.

The app recently completed $24 million seed capital from technology investment platform Coatue, New Wave, and other investors from the tech and hospitality world. The app is working with more than 1,300 restaurants in Europe, from casual dining chains to Michelin star restaurants.

Last year, the well-known European restaurant group Big Mamma launched the solution in 14 European restaurants to reduce the risk of contamination during the COVID-19 pandemic. After a year of using the solution, the restaurant group team recorded that 80% of their customers chose to pay via the QR code; customers and staff saved 15 minutes per table; servers received 40% more in tips; 50% of bills were easily shared by diners within seconds; and there was 12% more table turnover.

This cutting-edge technology is just what restaurants need most as they recover from the pandemic. With sunday, restaurants have a simpler and less expensive solution to their current payment options, and they can provide a safer and more efficient dining experience for their customers and staff.
