Did The Seahawks Draft Work in Russell Wilson's Favor?
2021-05-04
The Seattle Seahawks are known for their ability to draft well in the NFL Drafts.
Ever since Russell Wilson spoke up about his lack of presence in the draft pick decisions, Seattle has had a bit of drama. Most of the drama has settled down for now.
In my opinion, the Seahawks drafted in a very offensive mindset this year, even with their three picks.
I have a lot of optimism in this year’s offensive for the team because they’re retaining Russell Wilson, Chris Carson, Tyler Lockett, and D.K. Metcalf.
Let’s take a look at the picks from the 2021 NFL draft for the Seahawks.
Round 2, #56 Overall: WR D’Wayne Eskridge, Western Michigan
This is a speedy individual, arguably one of the fastest guys in the NFL draft. While I was watching, I overheard the analysts talking about D’Wayne Eskridge has Tyreek Hill speed, and any comparisons to one of the fastest guys in the league is definitely a good sign. I love this pick.
Eskridge is going to add a lot more depth into the Seahawks’ wide receivers.
Round 4, #137 Overall: CB Tre Brown, Oklahoma
Tre Brown is a surprise to me. He’s a 5'10" cornerback who plays extremely hard. 5'10"? Yes, you read that right. Some receivers are incredibly tall, and this would seem like a bad pick, but in my opinion, I feel like Brown will be used in other parts of the defense rather than just cornerback.
This is the only defensive pick and it adds more competition for the cornerbacks the Seahawks must sift through to find their starter.
Round 6, #208 Overall: OT Stone Forsythe, Florida
Finally, a solid offensive lineman. Stone Forsythe fell into the sixth round and the seahawks traded picks to move up to get him. He is an excellent lineman who knows how to use his body and keep everything in front of him.
Forsythe will serve as an excellent blindside blocker who will take care of Russell Wilson in my opinion. He’s a big man who can move fast, is smart, and adaptable.
Final Thoughts
With the addition of a speedy receiver and a solid offensive tackle, I believe the Seahawks catered to Russell Wilson.
Even though it was two offensive picks, they were very necessary.
It will be exciting to see how these picks play out!
