Free Shake Shack Burgers & Fries with COVID-19 Vaccines (old vaccinations count for freebies too)

    2021-05-15

You'll take a burger with a vaccine, and throw in some Crinkle Cut fries.

It's no secret local governments are doing their best to entice wary residents to sign up for COVID-19 vaccines, but the measures some areas are taking to encourage residents to roll up their sleeves and get the shot are even more mouth-watering than one might expect.

As of yesterday, Shake Shack partnered with the NYC Mayor’s Office to encourage more New Yorkers to get vaccinated against COVID-19. New Yorkers can score a free Shack Burger voucher when they get vaccinated at one of the NYC mobile vaccine buses. These mobile vaccine units aim to deliver the vaccine directly to communities most in need, cutting back on required travel time and expenses and any perceived inconvenience. The good news is that getting vaccinated offers retroactive benefits, too.

Now through June 12, 2021, Shack Shack is offering New York City residents a free order of their famous hot and crispy Crinkle Cut Fries witht he purchase of any burger or chicken sandwich. All you need to do is show proof of your vaccination (any of them -- Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson) in-store at participating New York City locations. The promotion is part of Shake Shack’s ongoing commitment to support the communities where it operates.

“Shake Shack has been New York’s hometown burger joint for 17 years," Randi Garutti, CEO of Shake Shack shared. "We are born, raised, and headquartered here. We’re thrilled to be a part of the city’s recovery, helping New Yorkers get vaccinated and back to gathering again!”

The deal, which is offer till 11:00 pm EST on June 12, 2021 is only available at NYC Shake Shack locations when you show proof of vaccination (vaccine card or Excelsior pass) to the cashier, excluding airports, stadiums, and ballparks. It's a one-time use only kind of situation though, so don't try to take advantage of it and it's not available on the app, web, or for delivery. The free burger voucher expires in December of 2021 though, so you have some time to work up an appetite.

"I'm really excited about this," Colleen Abrahamsen, a 29-year-old Hell's Kitchen resident shared with News Break. "I mean, a free burger wasn't going to be drawing me to the vaccine anyway, but I waited patiently as everyone else on the front lines and older people got their vaccines, and now it's my turn. I kind of like to think of this as being rewarded for my patience. I need to get my second shot next week, so I'm going to do it through one of the buses so I can get my burger coupon. Why not?"

This is hardly the first freebie being offered to encourage vaccines, with Krispy Kreme's famous free donut offer and New Jersey's tempting free craft beer enticement for those willing to roll up their sleeves for a COVID-19 vaccine.

"I just think it's a cool thing to do after a really hard year," says Abrahamsen. "It's not that the free stuff or food changes anyone's life so much, it's just that we feel like we're getting a pat on the back for doing the right thing and helping our neighbors get out of this terrible pandemic."

You can find out more about the vaccine bus tour schedule here or schedule appointments by emailing vaccbus@roarnewyork.org, or by calling 1-833-ROAR-NYC.

Have you already been vaccinated and plan to make the most of Shake Shack's free Crinkle Fries offer? Or have you held out till now? We'd love to hear your feedback in the comments section below.
