2021-06-01
The Marion Oaks Community Center in Ocala, Florida has everything you need to enjoy a day outside. Interested in visiting? Check out more details below.
What we loved:
The large and small climbing structures
The uneven bars
The splash pad
The picnic tables under the shade
The sandbox
The helpful staff onsite
What we would have liked:
One larger slide for older kids
More trash cans closer to all of the eating areas
A “cooler” carousel. (That metal gets hot.)
Fewer ants :) I left with itchy feet.
Things to know before you go:
The splash pad is open 7 days a week, 10 am-6 pm.
The entire playground is fenced in and on mulch.
Although the playground and most of the park are open to the public, a Marion Oaks member bracelet is recommended for the splash pad.
Staff will check bracelts during busier times.
Members can get these bracelets by showing their ID and address at the community building on site.
The huge playground offers various structures, big and small, and is where my family spent most of our time.
My boys, 3 and 5, enjoyed the climbing plastic pieces next to the rope cargo net; a similar structure to the one found at Liberty Park in Ocala.
They also gravitated to the traditional swingset and the plastic spinning chairs.
My favorite part of the playground was the sandbox!" Parker, age 5.
My three-year-old enjoyed the smaller tot structure with three short slides and puzzles.
Nearby the playground sports another play structure for small children with a slide, bridge, and wide steps.
My five-year-old hung out primarily on the tall, colorful climbing structure and in the sandbox, where the Marion Oaks Community Center placed buckets and molding toys for public use.
Both boys also spent some time on the two red, metal carousels but abandoned them once the sun heated up around noon.
The playground also had a few bucket swings for younger kids and an uneven bar complex, where we saw an athletic parkgoer doing pullups and strength training.
The Marion Oaks Community Playground offers so many features that my kiddos didn’t want to leave.
However, we also spent some time at the blue splash pad. It was clean and smelled of chlorine (a good thing).
I watched from a nearby bench as my tykes turned it on by putting their hands in front of the red motion sensor.
Visitors can stand under a mushroom-like structure with cascading waterfalls or walk through the splurging water arcs.
And, conveniently, this space is fenced, too.
Surrounding the splash pad, I noticed an adult elliptical and other exercise equipment for those eager to work up a sweat.
Another bonus: A friendly staff member welcomed us to the splash pad and answered all of our questions.
