(MONTPELIER, Vt.) As Vermont continues to outpace the rest of the country with its COVID-19 vaccination rate, Gov. Phil Scott said he expects the Green Mountain state to reach 80% vaccination for eligible residents with at least one dose of the vaccine.

Once the state reaches that threshold, Vermont will drop all remaining pandemic-related restrictions through Scott’s Vermont Forward plan, which set vaccination-specific milestones to eliminate restrictions.

Scott also said on Tuesday that only three people across the state were hospitalized with COVID-19 and that no one has died from the virus in two weeks.

Data from Becker’s Hospital Review shows that Vermont has fully vaccinated 345,799 residents, or 55.4% of its population, as of June 1.

According to the Associated Press, Scott and other state officials on Tuesday are still discussing Vermont’s ongoing pandemic response.

Instead of holding coronavirus press briefings twice a week, Scott said on Friday that they will now only be held every Tuesday.

“We’ve come a long way when you think about it,” Scott said, per the AP. “We went from three a week in the beginning, to two a week and now we’re transitioning to just one.”

Since Vermont’s state of emergency began, Scott and his administration have help 142 briefings.
