On Monday shortly after 12 pm, firefighters received an unconfirmed report of a gas odor at 1329 S Fremont Ave in Alhambra.

Firefighters arriving on scene advised that Southern California Gas was working to repair a gas line in the area.

Firefighters requested that police assist with traffic control as this maintenance was performed.

Twenty minutes later, firefighters approached and evacuated nearby homes, confirming there was a leak.

Firefighters evacuated approximately six homes and blocked traffic.

The gas company is investigating the broken gas line and checking the surrounding around to track the gas leak.

Firefighters continued to make in-person contact with impacted homes and residents.

They also requested that police shut down westbound Front St at Elm St.

Over thirty minutes after the initial report and firefighters and police arrived on the scene, the gas odor was still noticeable in the area.

Firefighters completed the evacuations on West Shorb Street and are in communication with the gas company.

Further information is currently unavailable. This situation is developing.
