Keep reading below to find out essential spots worthy of checking out and being apart of your burger bucket list.
Hunter House Hamburgers
35075 Woodward Ave, Birmingham, MI 48009
Located right on Woodward Avenue, you'll find a bright-white hamburger stand that looks like it could even be from another era. Hunter House Hamburgers specializes in small, greasy sliders served on a steamed bun with pickles and caramelized onions. This hamburger house has been in place since 1952, and is easily Detroit's most recognizable place for sliders.
Basement Burger Bar
33316 Grand River Ave, Farmington, MI 48336
The Basement Burger Bar offers the ability to craft your own perfect burger. The options are endless as some of their burgers are even loaded up with everything from mozzarella sticks to fried pickles. Here, you can order a straight-forward cheeseburger or try something more fun and intense like a Bandwagon Burger which is topped with pulled pork, barbecue sauce, onion rings, and a sunny-side-up egg. The original Farmington location is an underground ode so this burger bar really is practically in a basement.
Motz Burgers
7216 W Fort St, Detroit, MI 48209
For only $2.25 each, Motz's old-school burgers have kept Detroiters coming back for more since 1929. If you are in the mood for another variety of burger other than sliders, there are fancier options as well with stacks of accessories to load up on.
Green Dot Stables
2200 W Lafayette Blvd, Detroit, MI 48216
Green Dot Stables offers a menu of diverse options that are $4, or less. This restaurant is all about mixing and matching multiple mini burgers to fill your plate. Green Dot Stables even offers specials that include kangaroo burgers, salmon, wild boar, elk sausage and even shark. The cheeseburger around here keeps things classic with just pickles and onions, but if you're up for a surprise, ask for the mystery meat.
Mercury Burger & Bar
2163 Michigan Ave, Detroit, MI 48216
A Corktown favorite, Mercury Burger & Bar offers a wide variety of burger; 15 different options actually. There is even a southwest burger that includes chorizo, jalapenos, munster cheese, tortilla strips, avocado and pickled carrots. Don't forget to add on garlic fries to your order along with a boozy milkshake. Popular burger choices here include the Southwest, Topor, and Eastern Market burger.

Grey Ghost Detroit
47 E Watson St., Detroit, MI 48201
Grey Ghost Detroit is not your average burger joint. This restaurant levels up as they first start with two patties and then add melty American cheese, lettuce, a special sauce, mayonnaise and onions. Once these ingredients are all layered just right, the options from here on out are endless. Try an egg on top or switch out the beef patty for a dry-aged steak.
Redcoat Tavern
31542 Woodward Ave, Royal Oak, MI 48073
Known for their burgers, Redcoat Tavern is also known for a lot of other things on their menu and is a popular choice among Metro Detroit residents. This restaurant opened in 1972, and some even argue that this is the best burger spot around. Each one is made with freshly ground beef and served “continental style” on a sesame seed bun, but many customers order up the Piedmontese beef patties. From there, choose from 44 different modifications. Along with the amazing, juicy burgers, Redcoat Tavern even has a cool ambiance that is quite mysterious with its vinyl seats and low-light that is red.
