Red, White and BBQ! Four Chicago BBQ Spots that will make your mouth water!

    2021-06-29

If you’re a big BBQ fan, you know the big regions. Kansas City which is famous for its burnt ends. Memphis for its Memphis in May BBQ contest. Texas for its brisket and North Carolina for its whole hog barbeque.

In Chicago we’re lucky when it comes to this American classic. We’ve got outstanding BBQ that borrows from all those regions and provides amazing flavor across the board. We love to sample BBQ whenever we travel, but we know that we can always visit these amazing BBQ joints when we come back home.

    Green Street Smoked Meats

Green Street Smoked Meats pay homage to the Texas style meat markets. First off, this West Loop space is huge! It can hold a crowd and it attracts one too. Second off, as their name suggests, the meats here are the star of the show!

For our money, Green Street Smoked Meats has the best brisket in town. In fact Adam, who is a certified BBQ judge, thinks its one of the top 2 or 3 places for brisket outside of Texas. That’s not an honor he bestows lightly.

Their terrific meats don’t stop at brisket however. Their ribs, pulled pork and sausage are among some of the best in the city. To cap it all off, Green Street Smoked Meats elevates its sides, as both the potato salad and baked beans are outstanding.

Green Street Smoked Meats is located at 112 N Green St, Chicago, IL 60607.

    Smoque

Smoque exploded upon the Chicago food scene and there has been a line out the door ever since. It even famously attracted a visit from one Guy Fieri early in the Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives days.

Smoque has also received acclaim for its brisket, and it’s mighty tasty. For us, what makes Smoque stand out is its terrific BBQ sauces. Our typical order is usually one platter of chopped brisket and one rack of half ribs, both sauced up big time.

Smoque also succeeds tremendously when it comes to sides. You can’t go wrong with its mac n’ cheese (can you ever go wrong with mac n’ cheese?) and leftover meat makes its way into their beans to kick them into overdrive.

Smoque is located at 3800 N Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60641.

    Chicago Q

Adam contends that the classier the joint, the worse their BBQ is. This often holds true, however Chicago Q bucks this trend. Something about BBQ calls for a bit of a run down building, smoke smells and picnic tables. This is not what you’ll find at this delicious Gold Coast eatery.

Chicago Q delivers high end BBQ in a classy setting. That truly is no small feat. The prices here are going to be a bit higher than you’ll find at a BBQ shack, but we think they earn that extra coin. Across the board their meats are tasty. You can also mix it up with some of their entrees. Prime Rib, Shrimp & Grits and Fried Chicken compliment their slew of BBQ meats.

Chicago Q is located at 1160 N Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60610.

    Lem's Famous SignUrsula P./Yelp

    Lem’s Bar-B-Q
Opened in 1954 by Bruce and Myles Lemons, Lem’s Bar-B-Q is known for its rib tips and hot links. It’s beautiful green and red neon sign lets you know that you’re in for a delicious meal.

As previously mentioned, rib tips and hot links are the star of the show here. That doesn’t mean you can skip out on their other offerings though. Lem’s has tasty fried chicken and the ribs deliver as well. I mean where do you think they get the delicious rib tips from?

    Lem’s is located at 311 E 75th St, Chicago, IL 60619.
