    Levelland police, SWAT on scene in 1100 block of 10th Street, public asked to avoid area

    UPDATE: 7:31 p.m. The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department released information regarding the fatal shooting of a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputy and SWAT Commander Sergeant Josh Bartlett Thursday, at an incident in the 1100 block of 10th Street. The release said the Lubbock County SWAT team responded to the 1100 block of 10th Street around 2:15 p.m. Thursday to assist the Levelland Police Department with reports of a barricaded subject and reports of shots fired. Shortly after arrival, gunfire was exchanged and Sgt. Bartlett was shot. He was transported to Covenant Health Levelland with life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced deceased.     Deadly standoff ends in Levelland, suspect in custody with injuries

    LEVELLAND, Texas (KCBD) - An LSO SWAT Commander was killed and four other officers were injured in a deadly SWAT standoff in Levelland. Law enforcement secured the area near 10th Street and Avenue J around 2 p.m. Thursday, and worked to push back the perimeter as the subject, later identified by law enforcement as 22-year-old Omar Soto-Chavira, fired shots “in all directions” from inside.
