    AKELEY, MN - Akeley is the place of the headwaters of the Crow Wing Chain, which is in the picturesque Northwoods of Minnesota. Akeley can provide the best in riding, fishing, and camping, walking, and hunting in this environment of magnificent lakes and thick woodlands. Akeley also offers an array of incredible culinary adventures, shopping, outdoor activities, and theater within a 10-mile radius.     1. The City Beach
    The beach features ashore with a playground, a lot of sand, and a raft between the City Camping and the boat dock.

    2. The Worlds Largest Paul Bunyan Statue

    The first trail in the country was the Heartland Trail. The 49-mile road leads from Park Rapids up to Cass Lake, paved with numerous uses.     4. The Paul Bunyan Museum

    5. Itasca State Park
    Interesting areas include the old preacher's growth pine, Peace Pipe Vista, the bison-killing area, and over 100 lakes. The historic Douglas Lodge has rooms for rent, cabins & Suites Itasca. Superb Common Loon birding location, Black-Backed woodpecker, Alder Flycatcher, and more from the Winter Wren. Ski trails cross-country.
