MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Northwest Minnesota has a lot of trails for avid bikers. Aside from the Paul Bunyan State Trail, there are also short and family-friendly trails in this region. Also, consider checking out the Detroit Mountain Trail for more challenges.

The US Forest Service also offers various types of recreational riding experiences. One example is the Norway Beach campground, which features a paved trail that follows the shoreline. It's a safe and scenic place for kids.

Minnesota's forests also offer numerous biking options. Mountain bikers can use all of the state's forest roads and trails unless they are posted closed.

    Paul Bunyan State Trail

The trail begins north of Bemidji and runs through Lake Bemidji State Park. It continues to travel south for 123 miles before reaching Crow Wing State Park. Most of the time, riders enjoy easy riding and level riding along the trail.

    Heartland State Trai

The Heartland State Trail connects Park Rapids and Walker to Cass Lake. The trail is constructed upon a former railroad grade.

The Park Rapids to Walker segment of the trail passes through areas such as Dorsett, Walker, and Nevis. There is also a second trail for mountain bikers.

Both Park Rapids and Walker have plenty of lodging options and shopping options.

    Itasca State Park

A paved trail leads visitors to the park's many attractions, including an interpretive center and a riverhead cafe. There are also other great places to visit in the park.

    Detroit Mountain

The Detroit Mountain Recreation Area stars miles of well-designed mountain bike trails. There are also alpine ski areas for all levels of skiers.
