Iredell Arts Council’s August Local Artist Spotlight Shows a Wealth of Talent

Each month the Iredell Arts Council sponsors a Local Artist Spotlight for area musicians. This is a totally free show to attend in person, but is also available on Facebook Live and YouTube. It is one of the bestt events you should be attending in Iredell County.

As always August’s spotlight was top-notch with great area talent. A thunderstorm occurred just prior to the event, which probably impacted the number of in-person audience members, but the show went on for those able to attend.

One scheduled act did not show up, so those four that did played four songs each instead of the usual three. That’s one good thing about this show - the length is typically not beyond where someone with a short attention-span like me can handle.

All of the four performing are singer-songwriters and while a couple of covers made it into the show, they mostly showcased their own work.

Bryan Olson started things off for the evening. Bryan is a regular at these concerts and a big part of the reason the quality and sound is so good in the space. His style is Southern country, which he delivers with a laid back style. His latest solo album was releaseed in 2020, and is called "Hemlock Ridge".

Drew Schroder, from Granite Quarry, is another country artist. His style may be considered a bit more old country. His lyrics have heart and humor and reflect an introspection that is flecked in wisdom from lessons learned.

Glenn Goodnight plays with the band The Goodnight Brothers. He puts on annt solo performance, too, though. His bluesy style, with lyrics that show an appreciation for the good things in life, brings a smile to your face, guaranteed.

Alexandra Serrano hails from Vermont, but fortunately she now calls Statesville home. Her sound is contemporary and her vocals honest and true.
