Make a plan to prepare for Arizona unexpected natural disasters

    2021-08-22

PHOENIX, AZ - The state of Arizona is vulnerable to a variety of natural disasters and incidents. An emergency can happen at any time and without prior notice. It is in everyone's best interest for individuals, families, and whole communities to prepare themselves for that occasion.

Preparedness begins with a plan that outlines how you and your family will react in the event of an emergency. Create and practice family evacuation and communication plans that include a family gathering location, special needs considerations, and emergency phone numbers.

Things you need to include in your plan:

    • Out-of-Town Contact

A long-distance call may be easier to make than a local one during an emergency, thus an out-of-town contact may be in a better position to convey messages between divided family members. Assign a friend or relative who lives out of town as a go-to number to contact, for you and your family in the event of an emergency.

Make sure every member of the household has the out-of-town contact number. You can also set up group texts ahead of time. Prepare coins or prepaid phone cards for everyone to make the emergency call. When a phone call isn't able to get through due to a network outage, text messaging can be used to get around.

    • Evacuating with Your Pet

Plan to board your pet at a kennel, hotel, or with friends or relatives located outside of the affected area in case of an emergency. Keep in mind that stressed pets may act out differently, and their aggression level may rise. To acquaint your pets with the departure procedure, practice with them beforehand. This could help to increase their level of comfort when the event occurs.

Collect everything your pet may need in an emergency go-kit. If you're not sure you've got everything in, you can consult your local veterinarian to see if there are any specific items you should include.

In addition, place a "pet inside" sticker in a visible location on your property to notify emergency responders of the presence of pets so they can check your place in case you and your pets were not together when the emergency happened.

Well it's always better to be prepared than not, especially these days when ever you possibly can. I believe if I'd been through 3 disasters already I'd definitely be as prepared as l could for the next one, at least you'd have a better chance of not loosing everything this time. Just saying. When we were in Guam we went through two Typhoon's , the first onewe didn't put up the shutters, and it nearly scared my poor son to death. The second time l put the shutters up, and thank God l did , we got alot of water, l was up all night mopping it up even with the shutters up, but we didn't loose anything, and my poor y wasn't as scared. God is so good he makes it available for us to get warnings, it's up to us to use common sense and heed to them, and l do.
