    They need to work to get a left turn traffic light from Hardesty Rd to US 177. That is a dangerous place because of all the unprotected left turns.

    Alcorn celebrates 100th birthday

    Lorene Long Alcorn celebrated her 100th birthday recently with family and friends. Lorene married Robert D. Alcorn Sr., and they were married for 63 years before he passed away in 2006. Both Lorene and Robert were OBU graduates. They raised four children in Shawnee: Daniel Jr., Esther, Brad and Luke. Read more

    Sherri Hightower, 65, resident of McLoud, died Sept. 14, 2021. Sherri was born on December 3, 1955 in Oklahoma City to her parents, Martin Parks and Joyce Stratton. Survivors include her daughter, Amber Smith, of Okemah; son, Robert Hightower, of Shawnee; and her four grandchildren, Garrett Walkup, Ty Walkup, Hannah Walkup, and Allissa Roper. Read more
