    Women's Basketball Season Preview

    The Dordt women's basketball team opens up a new season on October 21 after finishing with a 15-11 record in 2020-21. The Defenders placed fifth in the GPAC standings and ended the year in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.     Byers: Excitement level on rise for postseason

    The postseason has arrived for fall sports, so here is a little primer to get you ready for some of the excitement headed our way in the next few weeks. I’m not including football in this, but that’s due to the deadline situation. The football playoff pairings were not released until 9 a.m. today (Saturday, Oct. 16) in time for me to include specifics, but the Class 2A, Class 1A and Class A teams start the postseason on Friday. In Class 2A District 1, West Lyon and Central Lyon/George-Little Rock will host first-round games in the postseason while Unity Christian and Sheldon will be on the road. In Class 1A District 1, West Sioux and Western Christian will get home games while Emmetsburg and Ridge View hit the road. Again, with the deadline situation I’m not able to say with certainty the situation in class A. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn had clinched a home game, but going into Friday’s games South O’Brien, Akron-Westfield, Gehlen Catholic and Alta-Aurelia were still battling for the last three positions.
