According to a press release, the Chorizo Cheeseburger will be available at all Smashburger locations, including in and around Chicago, for a limited time only. You have until February 15, 2022, to try the Mexican-style collaboration between celebrity chef Rick Bayless and Smashburger.

Rick Bayless is a celebrity chef with many award-winning restaurants in Chicago, including the famous Frontera Grill.

"Some of my favorite things in life involve melted cheese and chorizo sausage, so bringing those bold flavors to a juicy burger was a natural progression. Add Smashburger's top-quality, fresh ingredients and this Chorizo Cheeseburger goes over the top," said Rick Bayless in a statement.

Oh, and don't forget to donate to Bayless' foundation to help Midwest farmers while you're picking up your burger. Smashburger is matching all customer donations to the Frontera Farmer Foundation while the Chorizo Cheeseburger is offered.

    What's in a Chorizo Cheeseburger?

If you like spicy foods, this burger is for you. With spicy chorizo, jalapenos, and a chipotle bun, it's not for the faint of heart.

The patty is made with Certified Angus Beef and Chicago-based V&V Supremo spicy pork chorizo. And that is topped with house-made jalapeno pico de gallo, lettuce, mayo, and melted cheddar cheese. The whole thing is put on a toasted spicy chipotle bun.

V&V Supremo is a family-owned Chicago producer of a traditional pork Mexican-style chorizo. The company, well known in Chicago, makes its chorizo using pork loin with no meat additives.

What is the Frontera Farmer Foundation?

During the time the Chipotle Cheeseburger is available at Smashburger, Smashburger intends to match customer donations to the Frontera Farmer Foundation with the goal to raise $75,000.

Rick Bayless and his wife Deann founded the Frontera Farmer Foundation in 2003. The nonprofit supports Midwest family farms by empowering farmers with capital development grants. The foundation has been responsible for awarding close to $3 million in grants to hundreds of organic, sustainable Midwest farms.

"I'm thrilled that this delicious collaboration will yield even more good food through its support of our Frontera Farmer Foundation," said Bayless in a press release.

    Get it while you can

Although this spicy creation will only be around for a few months, we can only hope the tasty combination will encourage other restaurants to begin a Mexican-inspired chorizo burger trend.
