Caught in a Blizzard in Valley of Fires Lava Flow in New Mexico
Valley of Fires BLM Recreation Area in south-central New Mexico is one of the best lava flows I have ever seen. The lava flow is some 25 kilometers (15 miles) north of White Sands National Monument and just west of Carrizozo and can be seen from space. The lava is the Carrizozo Malpais, a massive volcanic lava flow left over from volcanic activity that occurred several thousand years ago. Come along with us as Colorado Martini tries to hike down into the lava rock. Only to find herself in a blizzard and having to turn back. #AllInWinter
