Alice Eats Bakery Adds Sweet Touch to Troutman

You could easily drive by the unassuming business if you weren’t looking for it, but thankfully we were.We were in town and my aunt mentioned she needed to find a bakery and a friend said “Alice Eats” was a “must try”. We headed that way and there at 135 Wagner Street, in Troutman, we found it.

I admit to being a bit skeptical going in, as past experience with local bakeries has often meant a very limited supply early on a Saturday afternoon.

As we slipped inside, though, the bakery case was filled with color and choice.

We were greeted by Kaleigh Helms, whose friendly manner and professionalism immediately put us at ease.

We plied her with questions, that she answered with the assistance of Matt King, who has owned the bakery since December with his wife Alice (Ali). We didn’t get to meet Ali, as she was out running an errand, but Matt gave us a great introduction to their business.

The bakery is unique in that it tries to meet the dietary restrictions of all of its clientele. Amy is gluten-free and makes sure many items they produce are both gluten-free and delicious.

I have sometimes had items that were gluten-free, but compromised taste. From what I can tell, you won’t find that here.

You’ll also find dairy free, vegan, nut free and keto options, as well as conventional sweets sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

At the suggestion of Kayleigh I tried the Creamsicle macaron. Yes, it tasted similar to the ice cream treat of my youth. Delicious! They had a great variety of macarons, all gluten-free and some also dairy-free, not to mention beautiful.

I understand their cinnamon rolls are amazing, so I will be trying those in the future. I’ll also have to try a cupcake - they were so tempting.

They also have other gluten-free bread products they sell (not made by them) and I understand the hamburger buns are a favorite.

Here’s what I’m thinking. You take a walk down that great walking path in Troutman and reward yourself with a treat. Life’s short. You need to do all the good things.

Follow their Facebook page to check the special treats they are offering on a particular day, as well as to double check their hours with wedding season approaching. Yes, they also do wedding cakes and and take special orders. (The macarons would be a beautiful party favor.)

Their customer service was great and we left feeling as though the visit was a treat in itself. I’ll be back.

Slip in and support them by grabbing a few treats for yourself or others you want to reward. Oh, and it’s Teacher Appreciation Week, in case you forgot!
