Teen Shot and Killed Near 'The Bean' at Millennium Park

    2022-05-15

Summertime Chicago is on its way, and large groups have already begun to storm downtown. The latest group disturbance resulted in a teenage boy being shot and killed near 'The Bean' Saturday night.

According to the Chicago Suntimes, a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot at Millennium Park, and two other victims were injured in separate incidents after a large group dominated the Loop. Around 7:30 p.m, an incident escalated, and the teen, Seandell Holliday, was shot in the chest in the 200 block of East Randolph street near 'The Bean,' police said. He was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital and pronounced dead.

Two individuals were taken into custody for questioning, and weapons were found. This incident comes after an unauthorized party engulfed North Avenue beach days prior, causing a disturbance to nearby residents. However, it didn't grow violent.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot promises to take numerous steps to keep the city's heart and neighborhoods across Chicago safe for residents and tourists.

“We must also have zero tolerance for young people carrying firearms or settling petty disputes with acts of violence. We all must condemn this behavior in the strongest terms possible and continue to take action against anyone who violates these basic community norms.”

She also offered her condolences to the grieving family of the young victim.

Ald. Raymond Lopez (15th) believes that the ongoing violence is fixable, although disheartening, and thinks more action needs to be done by Lightfoot and other leaders.

Officials have arrested 30 people involving downtown disturbances and are preparing for more as hot weather takes over.
