On May 16, 2022, Michael Davis, age 32, was indicted by a Grand Jury for Criminal Abuse 1st Degree. On May 17, Michael Davis was located and placed under arrest without incident.

Reports show that first responders, EMTs, Fire, and Police have a higher rate of abuse arrests than other professions.

Officials say this is partly due to the great physical and mental toll working in Emergency Response takes on the employee.

Many attribute it to the stress of the job causing a phenomenon called "Compassion Fatigue".

"They've gotten used to caring for people and treating people but when you put that on them all the time, with only getting three or four hours of sleep and being in some of the worst conditions, it takes its toll," said Ed McAlpine, with the National Chaplains Association.

"However, there is no excuse for emergency responders becoming violent. They must be held accountable for their actions. They are offered extensive mental health services at no charge whenever they reach out or a supervisor makes a recommendation" McAlpine continued.

Chief's across the state say in order to end the violence in the profession, a stronger bond needs to be created between first responders and their partners from the faith and mental health resources.
