The Girl Who Is Dating Her Husband's Best Friend Accused Her Of Being Spoiled At A Dinner And Is Now Mad At Her
2022-05-20
A young woman in her twenties is married to her husband, and they do very well for themselves. They own their own apartment, they have excellent jobs, and they have some pastimes that might be viewed by an outsider looking in as, well, a wealthy thing to do.
Her husband has a best friend named Nate, and 6 months ago, Nate began dating a woman named Camilla.
Camilla is pretty judgemental of what she and her husband do, such as play tennis together, which Camilla considers something that is for "rich people."
She and her husband also travel a lot, and they're great at finding super cheap plane tickets (like, we're talking $10) and places to stay, which helps them to afford to go away so frequently.
Camilla has clearly been taking note of how she and her husband live their lives, and she's been spending more time around Camilla lately as Camilla is new to their city and has no friends.
She and her husband invited Nate and Camilla over to their house a couple of evenings ago, and they also invited some of their other friends as well.
As she was chatting with her friends, they started discussing the current state of the economy, the price of houses right now, and lockdown and the impact it had on everyone.
Camilla weighed in on the conversation, and she actually said that she agreed with what Camilla had to say.
Before she could finish saying the rest of what was on her mind, Camilla stopped her. Camilla talked over her, saying, "Haha, no offense, but you are way too much of a spoiled privileged girl to understand things like this."
"You would need a tragedy or two in your life to understand struggle. I love you, but you never experienced any hardship in your life, haha."
Well, every single person in the room was quiet and stopped talking. The silence was palpable, but she salvaged things by asking if any of her guests were hungry.
The evening went on, and nobody brought up that particular conversation again.
A day later, Camilla sent her a text demanding to know why she did what she did to her. Apparently, Nate had set Camilla straight when they got home.
Camilla had assumed all along, and she had assumed wrong about her in particular. Although it certainly might seem that she has lived a life of privilege, she hasn't at all.
Her dad was abusive to her growing up, and then when she hit her teen years, she was so sick that she lived in the hospital for months on end.
Her sickness left her needing several surgeries in order to save her life, and then she had to learn how to walk from the beginning like she never knew how.
Camilla is furious with her for not setting the record straight in front of all of their friends that evening.
"Camilla is mad at me for not telling these very personal things to her before and making her look terrible to Nate's friends," she explained.
"She said that even correcting her at the party would have been better because then she could've apologized to me in front of everyone, but I took that chance away from her and now she will never make friends here."
She simply cannot see how Camilla can be upset with her over an assumption that Camilla made, but she's still curious if it was impolite of her to stay silent over Camilla's accusations that night.
She's wondering if she should have kindly set Camilla straight amid dinner that night; do you think so?
