South Carolina police are investigating after an alligator attacked and killed a resident at a South Carolina golf and yacht community.

Just before noon, first responders answered a water rescue call at Excalaber Court. they arrived at the scene, residents informed them that an alligator had snatched a neighbor and pulled them into a nearby pond.

The victim's body was recovered from the pond. Wildlife specialists from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources determined that the alligator should be humanely put down on the scene.

The victim's body was transferred to the coroner's office. The incident remains under investigation.
