A total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the sun and the moon creating a shadow on the moon's surface. Based on the positioning of the Sun, Earth, and moon, the eclipse can be viewed differently in multiple locations on earth.

If you can find the time to get out and view this beautiful spectacle of nature, it will defiantly not disappoint. This Tuesday morning, (November 8, 2022) will be perfect for Louisiana residents to get out and enjoy the full lunar eclipse.

Looking up at the night sky at 2:02 am Tuesday morning, you will see a small shadow start slowly enveloping the moon. At 3:09 am, you'll see that a big portion of the moon is now covered by shadow. 4:16 am is when you'll be able to see the moon fully eclipsed by the earth's shadow creating a big, beautiful blood moon. Between 4:16 and 4:59 am will be the best time to view the maximum eclipse or blood moon in all its glory. At 5:41 am, the full eclipse will start to phase back to a partial eclipse. Unfortunately, the moon will be down past the horizon before we can view the last two phases of the eclipse. For more information on this year's eclipse CLICK HERE

If you miss this year's eclipse due to weather or needing rest for work on Tuesday morning, don't worry. The next total eclipse will happen on October 14, 2023. That's a Saturday, so it will be a perfect opportunity for getting friends and family together for an eclipse party.
