    Every state has a list of symbols representing its unique way of life. Louisiana's distinctive culture, natural environments, and way of life are unique to this state. You can search the world and never find a place similar to our beautiful state.

    When most state symbols are chosen, citizens, organizations, and students research symbols unique to the state. After a symbol is identified and well-researched, a request for a legislative bill is made. After state legislators review the request, they then vote to officially recognize that symbol being unique to that state. Here is a list of state symbols you may have not known about.     1. Nic-name- The pelican state

    2. Motto- Union, Justice, and Confidence

    3. Song- Give me Louisiana and, You are my sunshine

    4. Environmental song- The gifts of earth

    5. March song- Louisiana my home sweet home

    6. Judicial poem- America- we the people

    7. Cultural poem- I am Louisiana

    8. Dance- Square dance

    9. Musical instrument- Cajun accordion

    10. State Symbol- Fleur-de-lis

    11. Tree- Bald cypress

    12. Flower- Magnolia

    13. Wildflower- Louisiana iris

    14. Vegetable- Sweet potato

    15. Vegetable plant- Creole Tomato

    16. Fossil- Petrified palmwood

    17. Mineral- Agate

    18. Boat- Pirogue

    19. Insect- Honey bee

    20. Mammal- Louisiana black bear

    21. Reptile- Alligator
