Unusual gift ideas: Quirky board game inspired by Chicago's rat city designation

    2022-12-05

Looking for uncommon local Christmas gifts? Target: Rats the Board Game is on sale now for $45.

If you can't beat them join them. And that is exactly what the makers of Target: Rats the Board Game have decided to do.

According to the Chicago company, Transit Tees, "Transit Tees is back with a new Chicago-centric board game, this time inspired by life as a rat in Chicago, recently rated the rattiest city in the USA for the eighth year in a row!"

It's true. Chicago has received the rattiest city designation by Orkin eight years in a row.

In this game, the player takes the role of a Chicago rat, searching for food, building nests, and raising their rat family.

As seen on Transit Tees Instagram post, "Inspired by the bright yellow poster with a mean-looking rat under a red cross hair you’ll find in any Chicago alley, meet Target: Rats The Board Game."

    Age rating of the game

According to game makers, the game is suitable for ages ten and up.

    How to play the game

The game is for two to four players, and game time should take about 60 to 90 minutes.

You are the head of your family of rats, and you must survive in a hostile world. Lead your family to search dumpsters for Chicago-centric food such as hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and tamales.

The goal is to become Da Big Cheese and control the underground Rat City. But beware of the many dangers lurking around the city. You must avoid garbage trucks, cats, and hawks to survive and get crowned Da Big Cheese.

    Where to buy

You can buy the game for $45 in person at Transit Tees in Wicker Park and Andersonville, or online here.
