DeSantis to Hold Vaccine Manufacturers "Accountable"

    2022-12-12

The vaccine drama persists among Republican leadership.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said his administration intends to hold vaccine manufacturers accountable for making false claims about the side effects of vaccines.

“We are going to work to hold these manufacturers accountable for this mRNA [vaccine] because they said there were no side effects, and we know that there have been, and there have been a lot,” DeSantis said.

The governor was referring to research that showed male teenagers and young adults who had the COVID-19 immunization were more likely to develop myocarditis or inflammation of the heart muscle.

“We did a study in Florida, and you saw an 86% increase in cardiac-related activity from people 18 to 39 from mRNA shots,” DeSantis pointed out. “So we’re going to be doing some stuff to bring accountability there.” He added, “This is something that we’re going to lead on in Florida. We’re probably going to have some announcements over the next three or four weeks on that.”

We're still unsure if DeSantis is just trying to stay in the news with his latest comments or if he actually plans to hold manufacturers accountable.

    Emergency Use Authorization

The manufacturers have an agreement that absolves them of responsibility for injuries caused by vaccines given under a federal Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

The state attorneys general, however, might point to state-level consumer protection statutes.

DeSantis is the first state official to address the vaccination campaign and vaccine injuries. Additionally, he had the courage to appoint Dr. Joseph Ladapo as Florida's Surgeon General.

DeSantis also relies on Ladapo’s research to support his claims. And Ladapo was the first public health leader to recommend against COVID vaccines for healthy children.

Members of the panel cited studies from around the world on heart-related side effects, the impact on pregnant women and babies, and the vaccine’s overall effect on the immune system.

At the end of the day, DeSantis will reap the political benefit from this conversation. Whether his claims prove true or false, it doesn't matter anymore.

“We're still unsure if DeSantis is just trying to stay in the news with his latest comments or if he actually plans to hold manufacturers accountable.” That pretty much says it all. The statement describes almost everything he does.
