Small business restaurants with coffee & dessert in the Bangor, Maine area

    2023-02-17

Bangor, ME, is a popular tourist destination along the Penobscot River in Maine’s central region. This article will look at some of the best small business locations to share coffee and dessert with an out-of-state guest, a friend, or significant other.

Certainly, there are franchises where you can stop and have a quick coffee, donut, or other sweet, but small local businesses need our support more than these national franchises!

Frank's has an extensive menu of different donuts, pies, cheesecakes, and pastries. They’ve been serving the Bangor area for more than 75 years. Please stop by and help them start their next 75. I would recommend their Crème Horn; it is yummy!

Coffee and dessert are an experience at the Governor’s. Try the Federal Deficit if you like to share, and only if you like to share. It combines everything that goes into a Brownie Delight, a Banana Split, and a Strawberry Shortcake, all on one platter for $23. It is way too many calories for two, so bring the whole family.

You can find the Governor's Restaurant & Bakery at 643 Broadway, and their phone number is (207) 947-3113. They are open from 6:30 am to 9 pm, seven days a week. Thursday night is typically Children’s Night at the Governor’s from 4 pm to 8 pm, but call before you go to ensure it hasn’t changed.

They also have a restaurant & bakery in Old Town, Lewiston, Presque Isle, Waterville, and Ellsworth.

    Dysart's Truck Stop

Dysart's is still a delicious option for dining in Bangor, ME. All the locals know about Dysart’s and their massive servings. Along with hearty food and a bottomless coffee or tea, they have an extensive dessert menu, including various pies.

Their classic blueberry pie is an incredible option, made from wild Maine blueberries with just a hint of cinnamon and served with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream. Check it out in this video. If you’re only curious about how they make their blueberry pie, skip to 3:43 of the video.

    Dysart's on Food Paradise

Dysart's Truck Stop's Bangor location can be found at 1110 Broadway and just off the I-95 at 530 Cold Brook Rd in Hermon, ME, where they’re open from 6 am to 8 pm. That number is 207-942-4878. Their hours are from 7 am to 8 pm daily on Broadway, and that number is (207) 942-6725.

    Bangin’ Whoopie

Bangin’ Whoopie is the home of the Whoopie Pie, a local Maine delicacy. It is a gooey cookie or cake sandwich with a creme filling, the unofficial dessert of Maine, and available in over 50 flavors. I prefer the peanut butter flavor, but I have yet to try them all.

Bangin’ Whoopie can be found at 6 Water St. Their phone number is (207) 947-6222. Their cafe hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.

    Final thoughts

Bangor offers many cafes, diners, and eateries. This is just a small sample of the better places to get coffee and something sweet to eat. It's no wonder that Bangor remains a popular tourist destination. So, grab a cup of coffee and dessert at one of these local small businesses.
