Did Spring 2023 Begin in February?

    2023-03-02

If you're scratching your head watching Daylilies bloom and pollen falling before March even arrived, you aren't the only one. While most of us, myself included, expected cooler temperatures until at least April, this seems to not be the case.

According to the National Phenology Network, the Southeast is seeing Spring arrive weeks earlier than it normally would. As we watch new grass grow, flowers put out, and the sounds of animals coming out of hibernation, we have to remind ourselves that it is only the first of March.

We haven't seen temperatures this warm this early in the year in approximately 40 years. The consensus is that we will have a warm, wet spring. This does leave many of us wondering what the rest of the summer will look like. How bad will the bugs be? How hot will it get? Can we expect an early Fall since the seasons seem to have shifted?

According to Farmer's Almanac, we can expect scorching temperatures this season. June is predicted to be a month of storms, with August being the month to seek a cool place to spend your days. Only time will tell how hot this Spring gets as we enjoy warm-weather activities a little earlier than normal.

As the weather warms, do not forget to keep yourself, your children, and your pets properly hydrated and protected from the sun.
