Did you know that the cardinal is one of the most widely recognized birds in the United States? In fact, at least seven states have declared this beloved bird as their official state bird.

This species of bird does not migrate during the winter. At first, cardinals were mainly found in the Southeastern United States. Now, you can find cardinals in the Northern part of the country. According to National Geographic, this may be attributed to more available food thanks to bird feeders and adaptation.

The males are typically bright red, while the females are brown in color. The hidden cardinal in the image above is a female cardinal.
