Fresh, Sweet and Spicy: West Cobb's Weekend Farmers Markets Deliver A Foodie Heaven and Local Shopping Dream
2023-04-29
Looking to get fresh, sweet or spicy over the weekend? Well, one of West Cobb's farmers markets may be just the ticket for your weekend adventure.
Each week through the fall, Acworth, Marietta and Kennesaw are home to local farmers markets. All feature an array of local goods, housed for a half-day under bright white tents near downtown.
You'll find Acworth's farmers market each Friday from 8 am to noon, just a short walk from Main Street in the parking lot of Logan Farm Park. On Saturday morning in Marietta, the year-round farmers market is located two blocks from the historic square at the corner of Marietta Parkway and Mill Street. Then, on Monday afternoon, downtown Acworth is home to a farmer's market on Main Street from 3:30 to 7:30 pm.
We've visited all three recently, picking up some spicy bottled sauces in Acworth; craft sausages, tasty empanadas, garlic seasoning, and sweet treats in Marietta; then fresh produce, a barbeque sandwich and a fried Oreo dessert in Kennesaw.
Some of our favorite spicy, sweet and fresh finds include:
Tropical Hot Fusion Sauce. Bottled and sold locally by Noussi Foods, this sauce gets its origins the West African nation of Cameroon. Mildly hot, sweet and tangy, it includes orange, mango, bell pepper, onion, carrot, rice vinegar, olive oil, ginger and other aromatic spices. Since buying a bottle in Acworth from Noussi-founder Desta, we've used it on fish, salads, casseroles and more.
Elevated Sweet and Sour Sauce. CEO Rich Newton definitely hit his target with the appropriately-named Point Blank Pepper Company. His elevated hot sauce definitely brings the heat (from ghost peppers, among others!) while matching it with a soothing sweet. We found Point Blank at both Acworth and Kennesaw.
Ultra Black Garlic Powder and Paste. We met Soul to Belly co-founder VIctoria at Marietta, and purchased bottles of both her garlic powder and the garlic paste. We've used both in a variety of prepared dishes, and simply spread the garlic paste on toast for an instant and tasty garlic bread. We're now trying some of the recipes and tips found at SoultoBelly.com.
Dashing Delta Treats. Our biggest challenge at Sugar Shane's stand in Marietta was choosing just one options. We went with a Dashing Delta, a piece of cinnamon heaven baked with Biscoff pieces, white chocolate, and butterscotch chips, then filled with Biscoff cookie butter. In addition to the Marietta market, Sugar Shane's has retail outlets in Sandy Springs, Midtown and the Ponce City Market.
Beyond these, we're regulars at Sausage World (Marietta and Acworth), always picking up multiple packs of their crafted smoked, andouille, and breakfast sausages. Plus, we're always sampling and purchasing from others, so you can expect an update on more finds soon.
