DeSantis Has Only One Thing to Say About the Damaging Lawsuits

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis says Disney's lawsuit against him was purely 'political' and had no 'merit.'

"I think it's political," the Florida governor said during a press conference in Jerusalem.

However, DeSantis has a strong reputation for accusing others of the stuff he does. A classic case of smoke and mirrors. He'll often cry about how liberals are censoring free speech while simultaneously banning the highest number of books in recent history and policing what companies can say in public.

    Disney Situation is Hurting Florida

Disney has served a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida against DeSantis and other state representatives over a campaign it claims was "patently retaliatory, patently anti-business, and patently unconstitutional."

The action was described as "a targeted campaign of government retaliation - orchestrated at every step by DeSantis as punishment for Disney's protected speech," according to the company's lawsuit.

DeSantis, who is now on an international trade trip that will take him to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, is anticipated to start his 2024 presidential campaign in the upcoming months.

The two have been at odds since Disney openly condemned a controversial state law supported by DeSantis that limits content about sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade.

Critics of the Parental Rights in Education Law have called it the "Don't Say Gay" bill because they claim it portrays LGBTQ themes as taboo or unsuitable. Supporters of the law argue that it gives parents the authority to choose which subjects their children can learn about.

DeSantis had previously signed the bill into law in March 2022. Disney then released a statement, citing issues with discrimination, stating the act "should never have passed and should never have been signed into law."

Disney's complaint alleges that since then, DeSantis has sought to seize control of the special tax district that gives the Florida theme park and resort autonomy.

The Florida Legislature decided to disband the district's previous governing body and create a DeSantis-appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD). Based on the lawsuit, the board voided a contract created before the CFTOD was put in place.

What do you think about the war between DeSantis and Disney?
