(KATU) — A patient in Oregon caused a half-hour-long standoff with police when he became aggressive and barricaded himself inside the ambulance on Thursday, police said.Shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, law enforcement from the Clark County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol arrived to help American Medical Response personnel on Interstate 5, northbound at milepost 5 in Vancouver.The AMR medics had been transporting a patient to the hospital in an ambulance when the patient became "combative" inside the ambulance and "began attempting to access unknown items in his bags," according to police.The medics pulled over along the freeway and vacated the ambulance for their safety.Joseph Webb, 37, was identified as the subject in the ambulance.A standoff between Webb and police began on the side of the freeway, which lasted about a half hour.Police say Webb could be seen peeking out through the back doors of the ambulance. Deputies were able to make phone contact with Joseph and negotiate his safe surrender.Webb was ultimately transported to the hospital in a different ambulance.</div></body>
