Where to get free Italian Beef Sandwiches on National Italian Beef Day

    2023-05-26

Chicago, the home of the Italian Beef Sandwich celebrates National Italian Beef Day this Saturday, May 27th.

(CHICAGO) Like deep-dish pizza and Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian Beef Sandwiches are an iconic fixture of Chicago dining.

The upcoming weekend is not only a day to celebrate Memorial Day and the coming of summer, but the fourth Saturday of May has become National Italian Beef Day. The holiday appears to have come into existence eight years ago when Chicago's restaurant chain, Buona Beef announced its existence.

Check out where to get a free Italian beef sandwich this Saturday, May 27th on National Italian Beef Day.

How to get a free Al's Italian Beef Sandwich downtown

Head over to the Chicago Food Stop at 875 N. Michigan Avenue for a free Italian Beef Sandwich this Saturday.

From 11:30 AM to 2 PM (or until supplies last), 500 free Al's Beef Italian Beef sandwiches will be given away.

Is Al's Italian Beef the original?

According to Thrillist, "When tracing the history of the Italian beef, all roads lead through Al’s #1 Italian Beef on Taylor Street."

However, this remains under some dispute. What is known is that beef was sliced thin at weddings to save money. Thinner cuts of beef soaked in their juices and made into sandwiches served quite a few more people than thick slices of beef.

Funny that there’s a “National Italian Beef Sandwich Day” when over 90% of the country has no idea what an Italian beef sandwich even is. This is almost entirely a Chicago phenomenon.
