It's important for the homeless in Coos Bay to have the Devereux Center. They have been offering helpful services in the Empire area of Coos Bay for many years and one newer program in particular celebrated its first year of being offered according to the Devereux Center Facebook page.

Project DKD is a program offered in Coos Bay at the Devereux Center that helps the homeless get holistic healthcare on every first and third Tuesday of each month. It was called Project DKD because it was named after a homeless woman that got the right kind of care and was able to start living a normal life again as a result.

A physician's assistant named Rachel Stappler was the name of who saw how helpful offering care right where the homeless were at on the street so she's the one that started the project. This project allows people like behavioral health specialists, nursing assistants, and more to interface with the local homeless population on a regular basis.

When the mobile clinic started, there were only 6 providers working with the homeless but as of its one year anniversary it's up to 20. They have been helping the homeless get all kinds of life-changing assistance and that's why project DKD is something that most residents of Coos Bay can be happy about.

If you're interested in helping the Devereux Center help others, you can reach out to them through their website and you can call them at 541-888-3202. They are always in need of various types of supplies and food so it's good to contact them to see what they could use before you drop anything off.

Many say that the homeless don't want help but there are many that don't even know how much help they can get. Spread the word about these programs and you may just be able to get someone out of a dire situation.

As prices continue to soar, it's best to get used to the idea of there being a growing homeless population. Many are one bad situation away from living out on the streets so it's good to try to remember that and to have a bit of compassion.

the Devereaux Center wouldn't need to be finding places for these homeless to stay if they weren't encouraging them to come here
