I Donated Almost Everything to a Goodwill Store Donation Center

In my continued effort to try as many restaurants as possible in three weeks before moving, I came across a restaurant on my list that I won't write a review for my visit. Instead, I wanted to write something more positive. For the past several days, I've been doing a lot of cleaning; that means throwing away a lot of access stuff and donating clothing, books, and kitchen utensils to organizations that accept donations.

I knew Goodwill accepted used books for donation, so that is what I did. Instead of mailing all my books from my home library to my house back home, I donated my entire library of books I had collected for twenty years. It would be cheaper to start over and donate the books than ship everything off the island to where I'll be moving in three weeks.

The goodwill donation center at the store close to my apartment accepted my library of books, clothing, and kitchen utensils. Since I moved most of what I needed back home to my house from my apartment this past year, the remaining stuff left was either donated or tossed at the rubbish dump.

The Goodwill Hawaii locations are part of a larger network of Goodwill Industries international organizations worldwide. Goodwill was founded in 1902 in Boston, MA, by Rev Edgar J Helms. His vision to help others have become a $5 billion non-profit organization in what you see today.

Goodwill's other services

Aside from being a place to donate your household items, they have other services. They offer free employment counseling; additional services to those who qualify. I just found out they offered other services listed below.

• Employer Services

Goodwill offers free education and job services to people under age 21 and below; some areas are aged 24 and below. Students who have struggled through traditional schools can have assistance with programs such as helping them with their overall goals.

Final Thoughts

You can write off some donations at Goodwill, which could lower your taxable income with your donations. I chose not to deduct my items because I knew I couldn't reduce my taxable income with my donated items.
