Frustrated, Fleeing Floridians Most Frequently Move to Georgia Over All Other States

    2023-06-10

You could easily imagine this as an answer on the Jeopardy board game: THIS state is the destination to which people tired of Florida's hot summers, crowded cities and "Florida Man" headlines most often move.

And in the form of a question, please, the proper response would be, "What is Georgia?"

That's right, in the category of state-to-state moves, when Floridians flee, they most often head over the northern state line to Georgia above any other destination, according to the US Census Bureau. In fact, the rate at which Floridians leave the Sunshine State for the Peach State ranks second in state-to-state migration -- behind only those leaving California for Texas.

In fact, Floridians moving north are the number one source of new Georgia residents, with nearly 50,000 relocating to Georgia in 2021, the most recent year for which such statistics are available. Former Floridians accounted for a significant portion of Georgia's population gains attributed to state-to-state migration, according to Census Bureau statistics.

While Floridians are the most common new Georgia residents, the state also was a popular destination of choice in 2021 for residents moving from several other states. After Florida, Georgia was the top destination for Alabama residents leaving their home state, with more than 22,000 relocating to the Peach State. Georgia also was a popular destination for relocating Texans, with more than 21,000 Longhorns coming here.

Georgia also was a popular destination for those relocating from New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The Census Bureau reported that approximately 14,000 individuals from each of those states relocated to Georgia in 2021.

This article is not supported by the recent census. Typical liberal "opinion" portrayed as fact.
