Plot Twist: Ron DeSantis Defends Trump Publically

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has only been officially running for president for weeks, and somehow he's already defending his main opponent, former president Donald Trump.

Maybe DeSantis wants to avoid the same fate if he ever wins the Republican nomination and, ultimately, the presidency. Maybe he's cozying up to Trump to get on the VP ticket. Time will tell.

DeSantis blasted the Justice Department a few hours after hearing that former President Donald Trump had been charged with handling secret documents. This is Trump's second criminal indictment this year, making him the first president to face federal criminal charges.

"We have witnessed an uneven application of the law for years depending upon political affiliation. Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?" DeSantis said in a tweet.

DeSantis vowed to "bring accountability" to the Department of Justice and end political prejudice if elected.

It was a surprising comment from the second-place GOP contender, who is considered Trump's best rival but has struggled with taking on the former president without losing his ardent fans.

DeSantis deliberately tries to avoid upsetting the political base, which seems to get increasingly confident in its support for Trump with each passing legal issue.

Ten months after federal authorities searched his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach and removed materials stored there, Trump claimed he was being charged with handling secret documents.

The Florida governor had expressed strong disapproval of the FBI's Mar-A-Lago search.

Shortly after entering the presidential race, DeSantis said he would be "aggressive" in granting pardons.

Numerous Florida Republicans responded the same way DeSantis did, with some speculating — without providing any evidence — that the timing of the arrest was intended to divert attention from claims that President Joe Biden participated in a bribery scheme while he was vice president.

Biden called the allegations stated in an unverified document as "malarkey."

What do you think about DeSantis defending Trump?
